This ex-factory Opel Manta 400 is listed by its racing department “RM22”, the abbreviation RM stands for “Rüsselsheim Manta”. Indeed, Opel’s motorsport department was located here and prepared 37 Manta 400s for competition themselves, the others being prepared by workshops such as Conrero etc.
In total, 245 Manta 400s were built.
According to Andrew Rutter, (Opel Manta Owners Club) this car was built in 1983 for gravel rallies, in the hands of Vatanen, then adapted to “Safari” specifications in 1985 for the 1985 Kenya Safari Rally. It was driven by Erwin Weber. (5th place). He was supporting the other Opel driver, Rauno Aaltonen.
This car is a real collector’s car, more than a car that can participate in today’s VHC events. (approval of roll cage, seats, etc.). Its engine of the time is boxed. Currently it is offered with a 400 engine prepared by the engine manufacturer Ulrich Gerent.
The parts kit of this OPEL MANTA 400 FACTORY is very, very extensive, ranging from what is needed to mechanically equip a second MANTA B (engine, gearbox, axle, rims, etc.), to the factory assistance boxes, the period TRX rims with new tires. and… a semi-trailer of the Opel Euro Team!
The period documents in English are available, as well as those of its return from Tanzania to Europe.
